Sheep Care Update: Lambing Season Wrap-Up and Diet Adjustments #SheepCare #LambingSeason
It's so nice to watch professionals at work. I hope this guy is putting money away for retirement. My back hurts just watching him.
Ben says, " That guy is making my friends smaller and they don't like that very much. Could you stop him please? Mom? Dad? Anybody? Woof"
😂😂
Hi guys🐑 are your shearing guys from Texas?
No, Ontario, Canada
How much does he charge to shear a sheep ? Does it go by size?
It depends. Our big rams are more
Ferdinand is still my favorite ram in the stud battery.
Great job shearing by Jacob. Those rams are downright BIG boys! It’s going to be so much cooler for them now. Glad is such a sweet fellow. He does enjoy his pets from Lynn. Guys, stay cool as well in the current heat dome settling over the east.💚
Yes, shearing temperatures were perfect but it is just terrible here now!
A feature length video. Yes, gotta grab a cup of popcorn for the matinee! 😊 Love sheering day. The sheep feel so much better afterwards. Looks like some of those rams lost weight from getting their salon cut. Jacob, you’re so strong, determined, and amazing! I wouldn’t even be able to get one sheep sheared. A++++ 25:25 let’s just call it the real thing, Lynn, the “frank & beans” a scene from the movie “There’s Something about Mary” 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣😁😁😁🥰
WooHoo Jacob! 🎉 amazing! We can tell Jacob is a great shearer, so good you have him…and he takes good care of his back. The bit about how tall Jacob is helpful to give perspective about how big the rams are. Lunch!! Rats! About storm and hay on the ground. Really nice video Ewetopia Team!! So hard to see/hear Buddy at the beginning…such a great cat. ❤🐈⬛
Yes, losing Buddy has been just devastating. Jacob is a big guy and an excellent shearer!🙂
I'm so glad that Jacob made it! I learned that Suffolks are easier to shear than Dorsets on your channel. Those rams are looking good with their haircuts! Now they'll be nice and cool in the summer heat. Aww, Cassanova looks a little squirmy but he got through it while he licked Jacob! I thought that was so funny! What an impressive fleece. I could watch the sheep get sheared all day lol! It's so fun to watch! It .looks like Ben likes watching too! Haimish really struggled but he looks great now! I'm surprised that he likes to lick too! So funny. Glad is such a good big boy and now he's ready for summer! Ferdinand fought his haircut but all of his wool came off nicely and that was a lot of wool! I'm looking forward to part 2. That thunderstorm looked amazing, I just hope your hay is alright. What a great video, thanks for sharing and see you tomorrow! ❤🐑
Yes, Suffolks are much easier to shear. All these big boys have correspondingly big fleeces too!🙂 Ben can't get enough of shearing!😁🤣🤣
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
Glad the boys were able to be sheared. The shorn sheep look great
He's a tickler he is that Casanova . 😂 Jacob is amazing! Great job everyone!!
Good morning Arnie and Lynn. Feature length videos😂😂😂. I bet the boys will be so happy to get the wool off. That yearling Dorset was a good looking boy. That was funny Casanova licking him. Such a sweet boy he is. Now there is a big wool coat. The boys have a deep baa. Gladiator is so sweet. I completely adore him. Totally enjoyed this video. Never ever boring and the boys are able to strut their stuff. Have a nice evening. Big big hugs to you both. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😉😉😉❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Boy, like I said before. That is one stuff back breaking job.
Good afternoon from Germany ❤
The boys look gorgeous with the shearing. Beyond that I can only imagine how good it feels to have all that wool gone! I look forward to Part 2. Thanks for sharing and stay safe!🙏❤
It really bothers me that the dogs are permitted to be around the shearer…they stress the rams and I don’t want anyone hurt
The sheep are totally used to our dogs and pay no attention to them. But we do try to keep them behind the gate so they don't get in the way
Glad looks awesome with his new haircut, he will feel so much better once the hot weather comes, in fact, they all will feel better when the hot weather comes!🥰🥰🥰🥰
Good morning!!!! 🌹🌹🌹🌹
Some day, someone will come up with an easier way to shear sheep!
🌸
Lynn was that Monty crying while Jacob was shearing? If it was, he hasn't lost his pathetic baa! Too funny.
Yes, he still has that funny voice! Quite unmistakable 😁
I know exactly what you mean about the back hooves slashing your throat. In April it happened to me when I was shearing one of my rams. It really hurts but thankfully it felt worse than it looked although both of his hooves on his right leg left scrape marks. It was the first time in 30 years of shearing. It was my first year shearing my rams from Canada and it was the ram I bought from Keith in Ontario. What do you all do to them up there? LOL
IDF are worse than Dorsets! It's not a Canadian thing!🤣🤣🤣🤣🥰🥰
Big Boys, CassaNova licking him haha 👏🐏💜💛
Looks so hot and HUMID
It is now but on shearing day it was quite cool
Good Morning from MN 🐏 Edited to add: I feel nostalgic when watching your shearing videos. When I was a small child it was my job to climb the ladder, jump in the wool bag (ours were much longer) and jump around to pack in the fleeces. Good fun if you are 5. When my younger siblings could do that task I was "promoted" to paint-brand the sheep after they were sheared. Since we didn't have scanners or computers back then it was crucial for record keeping to have those numbers accurate and clear. We didn't use spray cans but used a cold branding iron and special paint.
😯😮👍😃🫡👍👍👍👏👏👏super , vraiment professionnel
Merci beaucoup 👍
I can't see if he's cute or not, but I can see his balls!
I like my color, my tail and no I don't want NO ear rings either or tags😊😊😊😊😊
You dont wiegh the lambs for a birthing wieght?
I know what those rams want, then they leave you all fat and pregnant, no help raising the lambs at all, I have to do everything by myself😅😅😅😅😅😅
You told them!
I’m thinking every country has different suggested methods and times for when to wean lambs. Depending on the business plan and the farmer’s purpose of raising sheep, (food, milk, wool, 4H, shows, for other farmers to breed, etc., or for pets) the goal is to produce the healthiest lamb/sheep. In general there’s no need to rush weaning lambs, including the burly lambs. Having those hefty lambs means the momma ewes were healthy, had excellent milk production, and provided fine maternal provision to her lamb. Lambs that remain longer with their moms tend to have a stronger, bigger growth rate. A ewes milk production naturally drops at about 75 days, though she can produce some milk up to 120 days. Without intervention, weaning occurs naturally at approximately 6 months of age. Generally, weaning time is more stressful for lambs than ewes. Let’s look at little Mister, who lost his mother shortly after birth. He depended on Lynn and Arnie to teach him the bottle. Little Mister survived, but he didn’t receive that maternal nurturing a momma ewe gives her lambs 24/7 because no other ewes at the time were available to adopt Mister. And Arnie couldn’t stay all night and cuddle up with little Mister to provide him that warmth and nurturing. 😵💫Mister did have a stuffed lamb I think, with him. Nevertheless, the shepherds did their best. Today, little Mister’s weight is low, which is an example of how important a ewe is to her babies before weaning day.
Thanks for your comment. I support all you said. We had a Suffolk ewe who let her lamb nurse (or nuzzle) her for two years! That lamb grew up to be a ewe we called #2 (her tag number) but she was our biggest ewe and stayed here for ten years. She had a fantastic mother. Nature is only part of the equation. Nurture is the other!🙂
I love the way you raised the feeder. It keeps moisture off it and lambs can sleep under it and not get stepped on! Fantastic idea and NO mechanical feeder to break down plus no noise and carbon monoxide in barn. Just roll out the bale. Sheep cant get in it and pooh and pee on it. Try and sleep on it. Feed is to expensive to let it get ruined. Feed that falls lambs use it for bed.
Thanks. We are happy with them too. Their only downside is having to push the bale out which can be heavy work at the beginning 🙂
